MENTOR
DIRE MENTOR is an extension of DIRE, also literature-based, for students in grades 4 through 6 and sometimes for older students as well. MENTOR is a natural progression from DIRE, but is not a prerequisite, and challenges students to become mentors in their communities. It encourages understanding different perspectives using six problem-solving strategies:
Set a good example
Listen and watch
Note the points of view
Find a way to take action
Where are we now?
Seeking help

The DIRE Mentors – as the students are called – are important members of their school community. The younger students seek help from the DIRE Mentors when they have to deal with conflicts between peers.
Just like the DIRE Primary program, DIRE MENTOR can be easily integrated into your school’s curriculum. Each DIRE MENTOR selection has a lesson plan developed and reviewed to meet curriculum-based learning objectives and encourage in-depth exploration. Furthermore, the lesson plans have been designed to align with provincial education learning outcomes.
The content of the MENTOR classroom module is similar to that of DIRE, but it focuses on MENTOR strategies and uses more advanced themes. The MENTOR core module includes tools focused on MENTOR strategies and carefully selected books for more advanced readers. As with DIRE, all lesson plans are available online through your school’s subscription.
