Across Canada, schools are playing a vital role in creating safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments. Pink Shirt Day Canada<\/strong> offers educators a powerful opportunity to engage students in meaningful conversations about kindness, empathy, and preventing bullying. On February 25<\/strong>, classrooms from coast to coast are invited to take part in the Pink Shirt Day Canada national broadcast<\/strong>, an inspiring event presented by WITS Foundation, designed especially for students and educators. This year\u2019s special guests include Leona Prince, youth mentor and award-winning speaker; star Canadian swimmer Maelle Sanborn; the high-achieving Geronimo Canoe Club & Crescent School Robotics Team; and energetic dancers from Vancouver Island\u2019s Harbour Dance Studio.<\/h3><\/div>

Teachers and school administrators are encouraged to secure broadcast tickets<\/strong> through PinkShirtDayCanada.ca<\/span><\/a> to ensure their school can participate in this impactful learning experience and join a nationwide conversation about promoting kindness and belonging.<\/p><\/h3><\/div>

What Is Pink Shirt Day?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pink Shirt Day is more than just wearing a pink shirt \u2014 it\u2019s a national campaign that raises awareness about bullying and encourages conversations about inclusion and respect. Apart from watching the Pink Shirt Day Canada broadcast, youth all across the country can get involved by submitting questions for guests and by creating their own Pink Shirt Projects<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 student-led initiatives that encourage creativity, build leadership skills, and have positive community impact. In addition to media events and project opportunities, yes, participants can also order and wear official Pink Shirt Day merchandise \u2014 including shirts and hoodies with original designs that reflect the values of the campaign. Proceeds help support WITS Foundation and partner programs, including Indigenous community initiatives. Finally, everyone can support Pink Shirt Day on social media by downloading and sharing WITS FREE Pink Shirt Day graphics<\/a> on their favourite platforms!<\/h3><\/div>

Origins of the Movement<\/strong><\/p>\n

The story of Pink Shirt Day began in 2007<\/strong> in Berwick, Nova Scotia<\/em>. After a Grade 9 student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two older students \u2014 David and Travis<\/strong> \u2014 bought 75 pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear them in solidarity the next day. To their surprise and delight, most students showed up wearing pink, sending a powerful message: kindness and acceptance matter.<\/p>\n

This simple but profound act of support sparked a movement, and over time, the last Wednesday in February has become the nationally recognized Pink Shirt Day<\/strong> in Canada.<\/h3><\/div>

Why It Still Matters<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Bullying continues to be a serious issue in schools, online, and in communities. Pink Shirt Day Canada provides an annual focal point for discussing respect and taking collective action to foster safer environments. By engaging students, educators, and communities, the campaign encourages ongoing dialogue and action around kindness and inclusion. Whether through school events, broadcast participation, or simply wearing a pink shirt, individuals across Canada contribute to a larger movement \u2014 one that says, clearly and compassionately: you are not alone, and we choose <\/em> to be kind<\/em>.<\/h3><\/div>
