Bourses<\/strong><\/p><\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Students pursuing post-secondary education or other pursuits can apply for these bursaries through the Greater Victoria School District:<\/p>\n

WITS Program Bursary<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 for students who demonstrate how the WITS Program has affected their lives.<\/p>\n

Petronilo Palaroan Memorial Bursary<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 for 2SLGBTQ+ students. This bursary is named for passed treasured WPF employee Petro, an openly gay teacher of Filipino descent.<\/p><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The first recipients of the WITS Program Bursary are Jasmine Zhang and Rio Schafer, pictured here with\u00a0Witsup<\/em>, and WPF director Fei Gao.<\/p>\n

Jasmine<\/strong>\u00a0created a comic strip that reflects her own experiences using her WITS to navigate conflicts at school, and also how she used the WITS strategies in other situations. Jasmine\u2019s comic strip is available to subscribed schools in Educator Resources.<\/p>\n

Rio<\/strong>\u00a0recorded a compelling video describing victimization he experienced when attending a new school, and how the WITS strategies helped him to handle conflicts and feel safer at school. Rio\u2019s video was featured in a WITS Program awareness campaign.<\/p>\n

In the second year of bursaries, Blair Irwin presented the very first Petronilo Palaroan Memorial Bursary to\u00a0Emma<\/strong>\u00a0for her essay on how WITS has made a difference in her life.<\/p>\n

Also in the second year, a Petronilo Palaroan Memorial Bursary was presented to\u00a0Tamara<\/strong>\u00a0for her story of how WITS made a big difference to her in competitive sport, and the WITS Bursary was presented to\u00a0Ava<\/strong>\u00a0 for her original hand-painted artwork depicting a multi coloured profile (using many of the WITS colours).\u00a0see above<\/em><\/p>\n

In 2025, the WITS Bursary went to\u00a0Jumana\u00a0<\/strong>(at left) and the Petronilo Palaroan Memorial Bursary went to\u00a0Brianna<\/strong>\u00a0(at right).\u00a0<\/strong>Both recipients wrote compelling essays on the impacts the WITS Program has had in their childhood and youth journey.<\/p>\n

This year, the Bursary Committee expanded to consist of Fei Gao (chair), Blair Irwin, Caitlin Ellemo and Kausaliya Rangarajan.<\/p><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>
